Child treatments

Setting small smiles up for success

When it comes to orthodontics, the earlier we can see your child, the better. An early orthodontic consultation can help us detect and treat orthodontic issues before they worsen, which can save you a lot of time and money on their treatment.

What age should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist around the age of 7. By this age, your child’s back bite will be established and Dr. White can detect potential orthodontic issues before they worsen.

If we catch orthodontic problems early on, we can shorten the length of orthodontic treatment in your child’s teenage years – or maybe prevent the need for it altogether!

What will happen during the free consultation?

When you arrive for the consultation with your child, our warm and welcoming team will help you both feel completely at ease. At Smiles By White, our goal is to ensure children feel relaxed and self-assured throughout their treatment journey.

During the consultation, we will ask about your child's oral hygiene routines and conduct a gentle examination of their smile. While immediate treatment may not be necessary, we will carefully monitor the development of their smile and intervene when appropriate.

Does my child need early orthodontic treatment?

While not every child requires early orthodontic intervention, our complimentary consultation aims to provide you with valuable insights into your child’s dental health. Addressing bite issues is much more manageable while their jaws are still developing.

Issues such as spacing, overcrowding, and misalignment of teeth and jaws can affect speech, digestion, and oral hygiene. Early orthodontic treatment, if beneficial for your child, is crucial for maintaining a healthy smile.

Benefits of early
orthodontic treatment

Early orthodontic treatment can benefit your child by:

  • Preventing extensive treatment in their teens
  • Possibly eliminating the need for braces
  • Preventing the need for tooth extraction
  • Building healthy dental habits
  • Protecting teeth from trauma or decay

Invisalign® First for
small smiles

One of the early treatment options we offer at Smiles By White is Invisalign® First. Invisalign® First is an Invisalign® treatment specially designed for children ages 6-10. The smooth aligners guide the growth of your child’s jaws to ensure there is space for their current and incoming teeth.

Invisalign® clear aligners are tailored to your child’s exact smile for optimum comfort and efficiency. The aligners are also removable, so your child won’t need to change their diet or oral hygiene habits during treatment.

Braces for kids options

At Smiles By White, we offer a range of braces for kids designed to support growing smiles in a way that feels comfortable and easy to manage. During your free consultation, we’ll recommend the best option based on your child’s needs and stage of development.

Metal braces for kids

Modern metal braces for kids are smaller, more comfortable and more efficient than ever. They’re a reliable option for guiding teeth into the right position and can treat a wide range of orthodontic concerns as your child’s smile develops.

Clear braces for kids

Clear braces for kids use tooth-coloured ceramic brackets to blend more naturally with your child’s smile. They offer the same strength and effectiveness as metal braces, while providing a more discreet option for children who may feel more self-conscious about treatment.
